2016 China International Drone Photography Contest Rules

SPONSOR

The 2016 China International Drone Photography Contest (“Contest”) was sponsored by SOHU News Center and organized by SOHU Drone Channel (WRJ.SOHU.COM). In 2015, SOHU.com has successfully held China’s First Drone Photography Contest.

Lexus is the title sponsor of Contest. ASFC (Aero Sports Federation of China), Popular Photography (A magazine organized by Chinese Photographers Society) and DJI’s magazine Focus are cooperative partners of this Contest.

TERM

2016 China International Drone Photography Contest begins September 14, 2016 and ends December 22, 2016. China Standard Time (CST).

September 14: Organizer held a news conference to officially launch the Contest.

September 14—November, 24: Collecting drone photography works.

November, 25—December, 4 (Round One): Around 200 photos and 50 videos will be selected from all eligible entries based on advice from judging panel, organizing committee and netizens’ recommendation. Part of selected entries will be exhibited in Beijing and Shenzhen, China. The entries selected in Round One will proceed to Round Two.

December, 5—December, 15 (Round Two): Judging panel will select prizes in all categories and the Annual Award through full discussion and voting.

December 22: Award ceremony . On the same day, the exhibition of excellent entries of Contest will be officially launched in Beijing.

WHO MAY ENTER

Contest is open to global drone photography professionals and lovers. The nationality of entrants and the type of drone are unrestricted.
Entries may not previously have won an award in any types of photo contest and do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud.
Entrants should preserve the original works for check in final round.

HOW TO ENTER

Entrants from mainland China can submit their works on WRJ.SOHU.COM.

Entrants from Chinese Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas countries can email their photo entries to uav@sohu-inc.com Attached information should include photo’s title, caption, date & location of photo taken, submitted entry category, and personal contact information (name, nationality, mail address). The photo caption must be complete and accurate, sufficient to convey the circumstances in which the photograph was taken.

ENTRY CATEGORIES

1) Image
a) Nature
b) Urban area/Architecture

Photo entry must be 5MB or smaller, and it must be in JPG format.
Only minor adjustments in brightness, contrast and saturation are acceptable, as is cropping. Any changes to the original photograph not itemized here such as composing, splicing or color correction by a large margin are unacceptable and will render the photograph void.

2) Video
a) Nature
b) Urban area/Architecture
c) Documentary

Editing and after effects of video entries are acceptable.

3) New Vision
This category sets for photograph/video entries of creative approaches, including Aerial 360 degree, VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality), Dronies (Drone Selfies), Short Narrative films, etc.

PRIZES

The Contest will feature one first prize winner, one second prize winner, and one third prize winner in each sub-category of Picture/Video/New Horizon Category.
The Annual Award will be selected from first prize photos/videos in above categories.

RULES

(1) The organizer reserves the right to display all entries on its website or publish them on newspapers, magazines or other platforms related to Contest. By entering the Contest, all entrants grant a license to the organizer the rights of free use of all entries in occasions related to Contest. Entrants retain the copyright and other equivalent rights to their entries.

(2) By entering the Contest, all entrants grant an irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide non-exclusive license of the organizer to edit, reproduce, display, adapt, publish, translate, and create derivative works of the entries. Entrants grant a right to the organizer to file a lawsuit and get a full compensation for any infringement acts of third parties, and the organizer doesn’t have to pay any remuneration or undertake any obligation for that.

(3)The organizer reserves the right to display the names of entrants, the location/drone/camera of photo taken and other related information on its website, exhibitions and other platforms where the works are shown.

(4) The organizer reserves the right to edit the video entries.

(5) Each entrant who enters Contest must make sure that the entry is wholly original with entrant and does not and will not violate or infringe upon the intellectual property rights, including but not limited to portrait rights, reputation, privacy, copyright, trademark and other rights of any third party. Entrants should bear all legal liability or loss caused by infringement if they violate upon intellectual property rights.
