Picasso,Monet and Dalipainting srobbed at
Rio museum
Four armed men stole several famous paintings
on Friday,including a Picassoan da Monet,
from a Rio de Janeiro museum and then
slipped away in a crowd of Carnival revelers.
Officials of the Chacara do Ceumuseum in
downtown Riode Janeiro said among the stolen
paintings were Pablo Picassos Dance, Claude
Monets Marine,Henri Matisses Luxemburg Garden,andSalvadorDalis TwoBalconies.
The men,who were suspected of carrying a grenade,forced theguardsto turn off the internal
television circuit.
They took advantage of a Carnival de passing by themuseumand
disappeared into the crowd, said Verade Alencar,director ofthemuseum,which is administered
by the federal government.Museum officials did not say howmanypaintings were stolen or place
