On October 17, VietJet Air hit an important milestone in Vietnam's aviation history - two flights successfully refuelled with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) took off smoothly from Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City to Melbourne, Australia and Incheon, South Korea. This marks a key step towards a new era of environmental protection for Vietnam's aviation industry.

The SAF used on these flights was supplied by Petrolimex Aviation and fuelled by renewable and sustainable raw materials such as waste cooking oil, agricultural by-products, woody biomass and municipal waste. SAF is able to reduce carbon emissions by up to 80 per cent compared to traditional fossil fuels and has been certified to stringent international aviation standards to ensure its safety on commercial flights.

This inaugural flight is not only a result of the co-operation between VietJet and Petrolimex Aviation, but also an important step towards reducing carbon emissions and achieving environmental goals for Vietnam's aviation industry. Responding to the global climate change issue, VietJet Aviation, together with a number of internationally renowned partners, is committed to researching, developing and promoting SAF, firmly supporting Vietnam's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, as stated at the COP26 conference.
