作为中国澳大利亚华南商会会长、蛇口国际学校前校长以及ISS全球教育服务机构副总裁Greg Smith，从2005年第一次到北京，到2018年到深圳定居，Greg见证了中国的发展和变化。

自从2018年来到深圳，Greg开启了在深圳的工作、生活和社交。

“来了就是深圳人”这句口号让Greg体会到与与来自其它地方中国人一样的温情。在他看来，深圳是一座典型的移民城市，无论来自何方，人们都能在这里找到归属感。他说道：“不管是来自澳大利亚还是来自中国的其他城市，我们在这个城市都是一样的，来了就是深圳人！”

作为国际教育工作者，Greg对教育事业充满热情。他认为，教育是世界的未来。他特别重视搭建学校和社区之间的联系，认为这对学生未来的成长至关重要。他提到：“未来社会中，数学、语言、科学等学科类的学习固然非常重要，但我觉得对学生来说，最重要的能力之一是良好的沟通能力。能与各种人交流沟通并理解当地文化，这是未来世界需要的人才应该具备的重要能力之一。而加强与当地社区的联系，是培养学生沟通能力、加强学生了解当地文化的重要方法。”

蛇口作为前海范围内的重要区域，其国际化程度和国际社区氛围让Greg感到舒适。基于这样的社区环境，蛇口国际学校与当地商业团体、社区建立互惠合作的关系，实施学生培养计划，践行学校的教育理念。Greg表示：“蛇口的国际化程度高，国际社区氛围非常好，我们在这里会有丰富的社交活动。”

蛇口，作为Greg在深圳的居住地，更是让他感受到了中国传统与现代文化的完美交汇。他赞叹道：“深圳最大的魅力在于，它是中国古老的传统文化和现代文化交汇的地方，传统和现代结合的非常好。”在蛇口，Greg既可以品尝到全世界最好的咖啡，也可以品尝到中国传统的茶，这种融合，让深圳显得既古老又年轻，既传统又现代，也让他觉得这是一个非常宜居、丰富多元的地方。

在北京的时候，Greg喜欢上了东北菜；来到深圳后，他发现了中国菜系的丰富多样，现在，他喜欢上了四川菜。

除了丰富的文化底蕴，深圳的现代化建设也让Greg印象深刻。他提到，深圳拥有漂亮的建筑和繁华的街区，也有安静美丽的公园和绿化。这里还有优美的海岸线，闲暇时刻，Greg喜欢沿着滨海栈道骑行锻炼身体，他享受这里环境。

在Greg看来，深圳又是一座充满活力和未来的城市。他说：“深圳节奏很快，大家工作都很努力。我平时也非常忙，但我依然觉得这里的生活和工作都很棒。”

如果用几个词语来形容深圳，Greg会选择“融合”、“活力”和“未来”。他说道：“深圳把世界各地的元素融合在一起，整个城市充满活力。在这里，我们可以对未来有很多期待。”

Interview with Greg Smith, Chair of the AustCham South China and Vice President of International Schools Services

In Shenzhen, the city full of vitality and inclusivity, Greg Smith from Australia has become an important role connecting Chinese and Australian cultures with his unique perspective and rich experiences.

As the Chair of AustCham South China , Former Principal of Shekou International School, and Vice President of International Schools Services, Greg witnessed the development and changes in China from his first visit to Beijing in 2005 to settling in Shenzhen in 2018.

Since coming to Shenzhen in 2018, Greg has started working, living, and socializing in Shenzhen.

"Once you come , you are a Shenzhener" is the slogan of Shenzhen . The slogan makes Greg feel the same warmth as Chinese people from other provinces & cities. In his opinion, Shenzhen is a typical immigrant city where people can find a sense of belonging no matter where they come from. He said, "Whether you are from Australia or other provinces cities of China, we are the same in this city. When we come, we are all Shenzheners.”

As an international educator, Greg is passionate about the education industry. He believes that education is the future of the world. He is particularly interested in building networks between schools and communities, believing that it is crucial for students' future growth. He said, "In the future society, learning subjects such as mathematics, language, and science are certainly very important, but I think one of the most important abilities for students is good communication skills, being able to communicate with various people and understand different culture in the future. Strengthening networks with local communities is an important way to cultivate students' communication skills and enhance their understanding of local culture.”

Shekou is an important district within the Qianhai area of Shenzhen. whose internationalization degree and international community atmosphere make Greg feel comfortable. Based on this community environment, Shekou International School has established mutually beneficial cooperative relationships with local business groups and communities, and has implemented student training programs and practiced the school's educational philosophy. Greg said, "Shekou’s high degree of internationalization and international community atmosphere is very good for us to have rich social activities here.”

Shekou, as Greg's residence in Shenzhen, has made him feel the perfect intersection of Chinese tradition and modern culture. He exclaimed, "The biggest charm of Shenzhen is that it is a place where China's ancient traditional culture and modern culture intersect, and with a perfect combination of tradition and modernity ." In Shekou, Greg can taste both the world’s best coffee and traditional Chinese tea. This fusion makes Shenzhen look both ancient and young, both traditional and modern, and also makes Greg feel that it is a very livable, rich and diverse place.

When he was in Beijing, Greg fell in love with Northeastern food; After coming to Shenzhen, he discovered the richness and diversity of Chinese food, and now he has fallen in love with Sichuan food.

In addition to its rich cultures , Greg is also deeply impressed by Shenzhen's modernization construction. He mentioned that Shenzhen has beautiful structures and bustling streets, as well as quiet and beautiful parks and greenery. There is also a beautiful coastline here. In his spare time, Greg likes cycling along the coastal boardwalk to exercise and to enjoy the environment here.

In Greg's opinion Shenzhen is a vibrant and futuristic city. He said, "The pace in Shenzhen is very fast, and everyone works very hard. I am also very busy on a regular basis, but I still think it’s great to live and work here.”

If using a few words to describe Shenzhen, Greg would choose “Integration, Vitality, and Future”. He said, " Shenzhen integrates elements from all over the world, making the entire city full of vitality. Here, we can have many expectations for the future”.
