The origin of the “World Space Week" World Space Week is an annual event, observed during the week of 4-10 October. The dates recall the launch, on 4 October 1957, of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik I, and the entry into force, on 10 October 1967, of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies. On December 1999, the 54th General Assembly of the United Nations approved the recommendations on the Third United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
