Britain and Croatia has confirmed cases of bird flu ascountriesaround the world scrambled to put in place measures toprevent thespread of thevirus.
In Croatia,the Agriculture Ministry said the country’s firstcasesof bird flu were confirmed Friday in six swans found dead inanational park in easter nCroatia,while British officialssaidaparrot–imported from the South Americannation ofSuriname–thatdied in quarantine in Britain had been diagnosed withbird flu.
In both cases,authorities did not know if the birds had thedeadlyH5N1 strain,which has killed 60 people in the last two yearsand hasrecently been found in birds in Russia,Turkey andRomania.
