Orica, the worlds biggest maker of explosives, yesterdayrejecteda A$9.95bn (US$8.3bn) bid from a group of buy-out firmsled by BainCapital Partners and Blackstone Group.
The consortium offered A$32 cash a share, a premium of 15 percentover the closing share price on Tuesday. Still, Orica sharessoared20 per cent to a record A$33.50 amid speculation that thebid wouldbe raised.
Don Mercer, Orica chairman, said the offer“significantlyundervalues” a company that was not up for sale.
