Korea and China share a long history of relationship as neighbors, allies, and sometimes antagonists. In the last several decades, the historical relationship between the two countries has suffered a temporary setback due to the Cold War and the attendant world order, but as the Peoples' Republic of China adopted an open-door policy toward the West and the world at large, it did not take long for Korea and China to resume their age-old traditional relationship. The Korea-China academic exchanges in journalism were born under these circumstances.
In 1991, the Institute of Journalism Research of Seoul National University, the Institute of Journalism of Remin University, Beijing Broadcasting Institute, and the Institute of Journalism Research Academy of Social Sciences, Peoples' Republic of China began discussions about academic exchanges in journalism during an international seminar held in Seoul National University. This was the beginning of the academic exchanges, and the process of exchanges became accelerated as the diplomatic relationship between Korea and the Peoples' Republic of China was finally normalized. The details of the exchanges are too long to be enumerated in this brief abstract. What is important, however, is that the exchange activities are growing day by day, and increasingly contribute to the exchanges of culture in general.
