　　Brief Synopsis：Germany's neighbour to the East of the River Oder is regarded as one of the most conservative countries in Europe, and yet the women of Poland are much more entrepreneurial than the European average. Thirty-nine percent of small and medium-size businesses are owned by women, and almost one in every three lower and middle-level managers are female. In the EU, it's just eighteen percent. Polish newspapers are already talking about a "business matriarchy". Irena Eris, who holds a doctorate in pharmacology, is one of Poland's most prominent businesswomen. After the fall of communism, she turned a two-woman business into a flourishing cosmetics company. In spite of tough competition from major international corporations, she has managed to establish her company as market leader in the cosmetics sector. Vieslava Eva Plucineska, a lawyer, is among the most influential women in the Polish business world. She founded one of the country's first business consultancies. Among her clients are the Polish government, foreign investors from a raft of countries -- including Saudi-Arabia at one extreme and Korea at the other -- and local companies trying to remain competitive within the EU. Then there is ODRA, one of the largest Polish confectionery producers, based in the province of Central Silesia. It also has a female boss: Cecylia Zdebik was at the helm when the former state-owned factory became a public limited company. The final report in the three-part DW series "At the Top European Women in Business" accompanies female managers and entrepreneurs in Warsaw and the Polish provinces and explores the opportunities and the problems that political change has brought for women's careers in Poland.
